Regina Spektor is wicked cool

Just listened to some random indie interview with Regina Spektor, partially out of interest to her music and to observe interview techniques for my journalistic aspirations. It's cool to see a slightly fringe-y musician still focused on common appeal and being so down to earth. Plus, she's got a wicked cute voice.

My favourite quote so far?

Interviewer: Is it more flattering for someone to be comfortable with your music, or really confused, and thrown off guard, or maybe challenged?

Regina: No, it's not. I understand it, and am very, very aware my music's not for everybody. I'm amazed and just happy this many people have gravitated towards it... You know, there are those people that are, like, avant-garde snobs or indie snobs and they're, like, there to challenge you- and I think, I think that's a very condescending, didactic, horrible way of making art. To me that's like a fucking nightmare... I think that people are really smart and really intuitive, and really cool, and I work very, very hard to write something that's not gonna bore them.

Here's the interview, its a bit lengthy, probably need quicktime:

P.S. She also mentioned Dostoevsky, which makes me feel better about having to do an ISU on Crime and Punishment.
